Further information
The route begins on the ground floor in the Chapel of the Illustrious, originally dedicated to St. Paul and conceived between 1308 and 1320 by Archbishop Umberto d'Ormont.
This chapel houses two extraordinary fourteenth-century masterpieces: Jesse's Tree, a large fresco attributed to Lello da Orvieto that schematizes the genealogy of Christ, and the Stories of the Passion of Christ, a pictorial cycle with Giottesque and Avignonese tendencies painted on the side door that leads to the roofs.
Going up, you will see parts of the Cathedral once invisible, such as the remains of the fifteenth-century dome and the eighteenth-century "forest" that consists of a false suspended dome.
From the walkways you can also admire an unprecedented and spectacular perspective on the entire city of Naples: from the sea to the hinterland, the view allows you to retrace the millennial history of the Neapolitan city.
The itinerary on the roofs of the Duomo is an emotional journey through the centuries, an intimate dialogue with the art and architecture of the city, a visual embrace that ranges from the blue of the Gulf to the majestic profile of Vesuvius.
This experience comes from the vision of the MuDD project - Museo Diocesano Diffuso, which signs the first and historic opening of the roofs of the Naples Cathedral to the public.
A goal made possible thanks to the young people of the territory who have chosen to stay and invest their future here, strongly believing in the potential of their city.
